Week 12 reflection

The lack of black teachers and support systems is likely what is causing affinity biases to keep growing and become stronger within the medical field. Relationships with teachers are very important to how a student decides to keep moving, and I know teachers have definitely influenced my life choices. If black medical teachers are having issues so badly that they need to leave, we are setting ourselves up for a long standing lack of black doctors. The medical work environment is degrading particularly to black doctors, and changing this environment is the first step to fixing bias in medicine as this can be adjusted. Support groups can be set up by black medical teachers, and student teacher unions may be a good idea to support both teachers and students alike in my opinion. I think this is also partially reflecting off of todays work culture where people don't really want to work with others, and affinity bias is definitely part of this issue.
