Week 5 Notes: The early years of bias
"To her, evidence of the earliest true civilization was a healed femur, a leg bone, which she held up before us in the lecture hall. She explained that such healings were never found in the remains of competitive, savage society"
first civilization= medicine
globalization caused uniformity in medicine
European medieval medicine and Spanish medicine spread
calderas and the Aztecs are good examples of conquests and medicine
Aztec priests had medicinal knowledge which the Spanish destroyed
passed down plant knowledge through natives
the catholic church highly influenced medicine due to their global influence
native medicine was based off surroundings as that is what they had
only had medicine for their tribe and was specialized
native medicine also relied more on rituals of the spirit
religion in medicine is a good point for more bias because so much of bias against anyone is based on religion
